Shediac deputy fire chief Julien Boudreau said they received the call around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1. Crews from the Shediac Fire Department and Cap-Acadie Station 2 responded, along with the RCMP and Ambulance New Brunswick.

When they arrived, the house on Satinwood Avenue was engulfed in flames and completely destroyed.

“The fire was brought under control in the first 15 minutes and crews remained on the scene for more than two hours to check hot spots,” he said.

Boudreau said the house was unoccupied at the time, so there were no injuries, but neighbouring homes were damaged by the heat.

Satinwood Drive is in the area of Pointe-du-Chene known as The Bluff, which is next to the Parlee Beach provincial park. Some houses are used as seasonal cottages while others are year-round residences. The community of Pointe-du-Chene was amalgamated into the Town of Shediac as part of the province’s municipal government reform.
